Readying a Home for Martial Arts
Martial arts are a way of life for most people who practice them. Thus, as a way of life, they need to be practiced constantly. That is the only way that one can attain mastery and proficiency in the martial arts; they need to practice the art to the extent that it is a part of them and very instinctive.
Some people also want to practice and brush up on their skills in private. In fact, some arts like kenjutsu even require their practitioners to practice only in the gym or where no one can see them. Thus, there is the need for a practitioner to be able to set a place where he can practice regularly in private. Now, what place is best for that but the home?
In order to make your home an extension of the gym or dojo, you would need to have some place to spare. The living room, of course, is not an ideal place for a practitioner to perform his kata or forms because of the damage it is sure to inflict on the properties there is. There needs to be a spare room for that. You only need to prep that room for martial arts practice, and you are good to go.
Now what things are needed to make the room ready for practice? It depends on the art being practiced, but most martial arts need a mat to act as a cushion for falls and drops. You may also need equipment like punching bags and other similar items as well.
