The World of Cyber Sports
A Cyber sport is a term that has been coined in order to refer to competitions that are played solely on the cyber realm, and that is, video game consoles. This was created in response to the rising popularity of video games and the competitions that come along with them.
Cyber sports encompass a variety of genres, and not just electronic forms of sports events like basketball, tennis, volleyball, football and others that have been made into video games. They can also include those genres like strategy, first-person shooter and multi-player role-playing games.
Perhaps the most popular cyber sport in today's society is Starcraft. Starcraft has found a warm welcome from the world's gaming society. In fact, it is popular up to today. For example, there are yearly competitions held in South Korea where the game has a lot of supporters. Gamers who make it to the yearly finals are even celebrities in their own right in the country. The game was so successful that a sequel is about to be released.
In response to such popularity of cyber sports, several international gaming competition bodies have been formed. These competitions are also held annually and feature players from all over the world. Some of these include the European Electronic World Sports Cup, the Korean-organized World Cyber Games, Texas, USA-based Cyberathlete Professional League and many others.
It is amazing how, before, video games were considered as something that most youngsters should not engage themselves in as they could get nothing out of it... or so they thought. Nowadays, with enough skill and practice, a gamer can actually achieve global popularity and earn a lot of money for himself.
